Member status requires proven education, successful completion of training, an interview and skill assessment role play with the Regional Chartered Arbitrator Accreditation (RCAAC) or the Regional Chartered Mediator Accreditation committee (RCMAC).

C.Arb. (chartered arbitrator) applicant must meet with RCAAC as noted above, successfully complete an interview and a role play, have the requisite training, a minimum of two years experience, have conducted at least 10 arbitrations as sole arbitrator or have chaired at least five arbitrations, two of which were fee billed.

C.Med. Applicant must meet with RCMAC as noted above and have conducted at least 10 mediations as sole mediator or presided as the mediation chairperson in at least five fee billed mediations. Provided the application is complete, an interview will be arranged as soon as convenient.

All Associate and Referral members of BCAMI are automatically members of the ADR Institute of Canada Inc. provided membership dues are maintained in good standing.

At any time, provided the criteria is met and the appropriate fee is paid (see administrative fee schedule):

  • Associate members can apply for Member/Referral status.
  • Members and Associates can apply for C.Arb. and/or C.Med and also for Non-practicing status.

Obtaining the C.Arb. or C.Med.

If recommended by the RCAAC or RCMAC Panel, the application is sent to ADRIC's National Accreditation Committee.

The applicant cannot use the status until this is approved by the ADRIC.

If the National Accreditation Committee and the ADRIC Board approve the recommendation, the ADR Institute of Canada Inc. grants the nationally recognized C.Med. and/or C.Arb. status. The member's certificate is sent to the BCAMI for presentation and an announcement is placed in TOPICS and the ADR News.

Persons granted the C.Arb. and/or C.Med. must also maintain National fees in good standing, currently $159.00 per designation plus GST in addition to BCAMI provincial dues.
